Mulwala Water Ski Club Griffith Cup 2005

Sunday 8th May - Yarrawonga
AUSTRALIAN POWERBOAT ASSOCIATION
#UNDERDOG WINS GRIFFITH CUP
This years Mulwala Water Ski Club EC Griffith Cup was won by a dark horse’ KT-style race boat against GP hydroplane event favourites.
The 30-year-old boat, Tattoo, driven by Matt Ferris, also won the race in 1986 when captained by Keith Harrison and known as The Rat. The rig, with a supercharged big block, was considered an outside chance to win the event against more powerful GP hydros, several of which travelled from New Zealand for the race.

Keith’s son Grant Harrison, who has won the Cup for the last two years, did not defend the title because of injuries sustained in a horrific boat crash in March.
The favourite for the prestigious Australasian title, Warlord with Paul Burton, was penalised in its heat and failed to make the final at Yarrawonga, NSW.

John Cross in the supercharged displacement Rival led for the first lap with New Zealand’s Warwick Lupton in Annihilator taking charge in the second before he broke down, allowing Ferris to slip through and take the Cup. Second was Annihilator ii with David Alexander and third, 18-year-old Ken Lupton in Annihilator III.
